Crafts- Gothy Baskets

My first gothy household craft is a very simple one. A lot of things can be made instantly more goth just by changing the colour. It's not a 'cure-all' but it's a good place to start, especially if you are new to the goth scene.

Wooden baskets like these can be picked up cheaply by going round the charity shops. Before you start getting creative always remember to wear old clothes and put down some newspaper, old magazines or scrap paper to protect the surface you're working on. (Accidents happen! Especially if you live with your parents.)

Things you need-
  • Wooden baskets
  • Acrylic paint in black or other dark colours
  • A paintbrush
  • Nail polish, rhinestones, lace, glitter (optional)

Start off by painting the centre of the basket and work your way outwards. This will allow you to more easily rotate the basket to get in all the cracks. If your paint is quite thin make sure you leave it to dry for several hours before adding a new layer of paint.

If you're feeling adventurous you can also use some glitter, rhinestones or lace around the top edge of the basket. I've made one basket plain black and one with a decorated edge using two shades of nail polish (dark red and purple) and some rhinestones.

And here are the finished items-
